I'm weighing some offers - mostly from boring, run-of-the-mill tech companies. But one from PAX. I was excited at first. Back in college, we'd commiserate about some of our internships / first jobs requiring drug testing. In one last session before abstaining for a couple of weeks, we'd joke about starting our own company: we'd also require drug testing - but you wouldn't get in unless you tested positive. Now that the prospect of working in cannabis is getting real, I'm getting cold feet because I'm getting self-conscious about appearances. What would non-cannabis users think? Future employers? My straight-edge parents, cousins, aunts, uncles? Secondarily, I'm concerned about their terrible reviews on Glassdoor. In interviews, they've waved their hands and say it's better now w/ the new, permanent CEO. Certainly a biased take. I'd love to hear in the comments from : 1) hiring managers: any concerns about hiring someone applying from the cannabis industry? 2) Pax insiders: what's the anonymous assessment on work environment, culture, likelihood of company success, etc? Also, is the offer fair? 4) Blinders from older generations and/or immigrants: what's your take? What would you think of your kids doing this? 3) Blinders in general - what's your impression of cannabis, the industry and/or the drug? I'm not trying to make new friends, but w/ strangers, I prefer not to feel judged on what I do for a living. More concerning is my position on an advisory council for my kid's public school - the optics can't be good here. And most importantly, in careers, perceptions unfortunately matter. I’ve always wondered actually if silicon valley companies do any type of drug tests. i feel like it would weed out half the engineers
I see what you did there. lol.
lmao that wasn’t even intentional but yes i imagine half of faang smokes
What's the role you interviewed for? Can I Dm you?
As a former employee be wary- they have had lay offs every year for the past few years
I know people who worked for a cannabis startup and had no trouble getting jobs at top companies after.
