How can you land a job at Google precisely Google Travel?

I’ve been working for a tourism board agency for 3 years now and have grown a lot. I enjoy my work but I want to take the next step and join one of FAANG companies. I’m having a hard time getting my foot in the door. To anyone who works for one of them, how did you end up getting the job you wanted?

Where you are coming from makes a big difference to land interviews. Whether this or referrals. Otherwise it is tough to get replies without any major school in your resume

The answers will be one of applied online/referral/contacted by recruiter/was a contractor that converted to full time/intern conversion/acquihire

Unless you are a founder of a travel company or a unique domain expert nobody at FANG would really care about your particular domain experience.

I wonder why is that like this though. Because teams DO care, so it seems to be more at the recruiter level

Teams DON'T care. People tend to vastly overvalue their "domain" expertise. It tends to not matter that much unless it's a hyper specialization like kernels, networks, compilers ect. Whether someone was "in travel" before just doesn't matter.

Teams don’t care as well. They look for Ivy Leagues or other big names or faang names in resume.
