People will always find ways to game the system. Whatever they do I assume will walk the line so as not to aggravate those not trying to coast.
Doesn't he realize saying this is going to antagonize any future employees, hopefully it's hot air otherwise engineers will avoid Google like the plague like they do Amazon.
Google can pip all they want, but I’d still work there. How hard could it possibly be to remain in the 5th percentile of G employees?
There are lots of managers at Google who rest-vest themselves. Some of my friends put bare minimum work and they joke that their manager does the same. This happens not only on teams which work on legacy Google systems/products but also new products since there are no strict deadlines.
It's always been one of those topics that's known by everyone but you hush hush about, now he's gone and 'exposed' everyone oh nooooo... what the fuck is he doing, this is like his third statement already.
They're threatening to pull an Amazon, I wonder if they're pulling a Tesla right now so that the underperformers will quit prematurely - more than likely though that they'll antagonize all staff including the high performers.
There are no actual quotes in that article. This is one (bad) take from comments taken out of context.
I think Sundar is asking for the bare minimum. What’s astonishing, is that most people are against doing the bare minimum with a 6 figure salary on their belt. You’ll realize your privilege when pip and layoffs come to your doorsteps
Well there is always salesforce
Am I the only one who enjoys this field and the work enough to not want to rest-and-vest, ever? I’m not talking about working to the bone or never being able to see your family and burning out. (I’ve been there, and it nearly destroyed my life. Never again.) More like, I want to put in a full day’s work of development and do a good job with it, not work half days while collecting paychecks. Because I’ve also been there, jobs with little to do for long stretches—and I found them slowly soul-rotting. I even changed jobs because of it, even though there was no danger of me being laid off. The boredom was intolerable. I think if you’re overworked hearing about people working 10-20 hours a week on a Google salary sounds like the dream. And if you have a family and need to take care of them and yourself more for whatever reason, that’s totally valid. But in those cases you are still doing something meaningful and important (maybe more than work, according to my values). I can’t see why being idle in itself should be a goal. Being Bighead to me is nightmarish, not aspirational.
LoL so their premise is based on a fictional character BigHead 😂😂
typical Indian manager
You think this will insult Indian managers? We take it as a compliment.
I don’t mean it as an insult. It’s practically a fact.
