Hi Folks, I have an opportunity to interview for Qualcomm ProdMgr role and looking for pointers on interview. the HM and recruiter did not provide any information. 1. Is it more of resume based on standardized prep like google/Meta? 2. What are typical areas/question expected? 3. What is the difficulty compared to Meta/Google? 4. What should I prep for. Any pointers would be helpful YOE:10 TC: 0 (320K before layoffs) #apple #qualcomm #meta #broadcom #nxp #intel #samsung
I doubt PM interviews at B2B HW companies would be similar to B2C internet companies. What domain is the Q PM req in? AI/ML, chipsets, IOT? For example, I got a question from an FANG HW PM position in IOT about a scenario about debugging a device that went offline. Much more different that the typical product sense and execution questions of Meta and Goo.
It is chipset domain. Have you given one of these in the past? your example makes sense rather than "Estimate revenue of Apple app store" type of questions or "how would you make youtube better".
Yes, I worked for a Q competitor in the past, but turned down Q interviews for PM positions (left the HW domain a while back). I haven't done a chipset PM interview in a long time, so don't know what to tell you now, but in my experience, those questions span a broader range of topics than those B2C PM interviews/case studies. For example, explain some tradeoffs that you made in past chip product features with regards to PPA and cost and how did you arrive at the final requirements with engineering/marketing. But if you were making $320k TC in some HW PM/chip architect function previously, you should probably know this by now.
It will be a mixture of domain specific knowledge and background on handling projects. In interview will be given scenarios , conflict issues, handling feature requests and specific to deadline. Some interviewer might ask you to formulate a complete feature development process for critical customer. This is based on internal interview experiences. Product manager is a pretty good role at qualcomm. If you have good technical expertise in the domain then it makes the whole interview smoother. Pay will not be FAANG equivalent. You need to cut down the expectations on that one.
Are the product managers salary at par with same level of engineering for the core teams- like principal PM vs principal engineer. Also is principal PM and director same level in Q?
The title levels of engineering and product manager are not same. Don’t know much about pay difference between core team and PM. I am assuming they are well paid. Lot of people from engineering teams get transferred to PM teams.
Isn't Qualcomm on hiring freeze?
kind of, but not for everything hiring for 6G and AI
