Best wishes to all the affected people. Hope you find strength and courage in hard times to bounce back stronger. Curious to know which unit or product got affected. Qualcomm seemed to be doing quite good atleast from the competition perspective. What happened to the Nuvia acquisition. The chips are delayed but a whole business segment is waiting for Qualcomm and them. Anyway seems like people from Santa Clara and Dan Diego getting affected the most. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/qualcomm-cuts-jobs-california-pledge-183406712.html #hardware #semiconductor #layoff #layoffs #qualcomm
It’s not dead, they’re just trying to reduce costs with no impact on quality when they realised that the engineers back in 🇮🇳 are just as good if not better than the ones in California.
They are not planning additional cuts in mid December. The people that got laid off yesterday will be on paycheck for 2 months which is mid December
From what I heard lot of software and embedded systems related job got cut the most.
The reduction was relatively smaller than everyone was anticipating. It might not be the last wave
Qualcomm is completely dependent on the success of Nuvia, and the team wasn’t touched, in fact the whole of snapdragon X is based on Nuvia cores
So which unit saw layoffs? Qualcomm was not doing custom cores other than Nuvia. The snapdragon SoC team is still needed . And modem and 5G teams too are showing good progress as apple just signed them up. So I am really curious which set or division got laid off
