I was recently offered the position of a staff design engineer at Qualcomm, Santa clara. I have 9 yoe. I have three questions: 1. is it a good time to become part of QCOM ? 2. Can someone provide me a base and RSU range that is reasonable for this role in this geo? 3. The recruiter told me that the numbers i have been given are non negotiable according to the CA fair pay act. she says the numbers are based on what current team members at similar experience level are getting paid and there is no room for negotiation. Is there such a thing ?
What was your offer OP ?
Tc or gtfo
My offer was 148K base and 51K RSU over 3 years.
Looks like other offers I know of for base. RSU does seem a bit low. Do you have any competing offers ? Unfortunately, you can't really use Intel RSU to build a case... Unless you've accumulated many over the years
Wrong, it is a low offer overall. Almost like they didn't want to make an offer but were like "what the hell, here are some crumbs"
Seems really low..for 9 yoe..
Probably beats Marvell though ?
No it doesn't for 9 yoe..
Base is low for 9 yoe especially in SC. You should negotiate. Q pays well for some teams. Which team is this for ?
Well they r saying there s no possibility of negotiation because of the fair pay act.
Maybe you can tell them your pay is not fair and walk away?
How much of a TC boost would that be compare to your current Intel comp?
No boost
Yeah then I don't think it makes sense to leave Intel unless you absolutely hate your current team / manager
With 9 years of experience, I think you should aim for high end of staff band or Sr. Staff at qcom
My experience has a few initial years spent in verification, it’s possible they slotted me in the mid range staff because of it. Thanks for commenting.

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
I had the offer for senior engineer at San Diego. They did say the same. Offer was 117.5k base + 28k RSU vesting over 3 years + 17k joining bonus. Recruiter told me that this the max possible offer for this position. I declined it as it made no difference compared to my current TC. Assume qcom bonuses are half of Intel. My friend told me some teams barely receive any bonus. 3.5 yoe
Thanks for the reply. Good to know the no pay negotiation is indeed their policy. I might drop it as well.
I did negotiate as there was some room for it. This offer is after negotiations.
