Quantum computing is claimed to be the ‘next big thing’ (in conjunction to AI) and Google and IBM have long been known to be working in this direction. As a hardware engineer, what can one do right now to be in a better position to catch the Quantum computing career curve in coming years? Is this field relevant to people with HW EE skills? Or only physicists and computer architecture people have the biggest advantage.. Tc 250k 8yrs #engineer #hardware #quantum
I've been thinking on transitioning to quantum computing and my conclusion is that it's all hype. We're many decades away from having anything remotely useful. The field will probably go close to dying in this or next recession. That being said, it's super cool, so I'm considering doing it anyways. HW EE skills are definitely relevant for the field. I recommend searching people in the industry on LinkedIn and talking to them. The field is too niche still for broad advice to apply well.
Any thoughts on hardware team at google quantum AI lab ?
"Long been known" jeez google bought martinis lab only like 5 years ago. HW eng is very relevant. Just look for openings and apply, especially at startups
What types of job roles is one anticipating in HW Engg for Quantum ?
