Question about Capital one experienced Software Engineering hire experiences and PIP question

13ish experience developer soft looking right now after receiving an email from a Capital One recruiter about some open positions. I think compensation perspective it will probably need to be "distinguished engineer" level. I am curious about the PIP/stack ranking I read about Capital One though - is that more prevalent for experienced hires too? I have worked at Deloitte where we also had performance reviews (annually) and I am accustomed to biweekly checkups and setting goals/expectations. With that said, I don't think Deloitte had a "quota" or anything to lay people off though like I hear from Capital One posts, especially recently? Thanks! #capital one

Lots of former Amazon management have joined the company since 2022 and 2023. The culture has gotten quite toxic. It used to be one of those places that paid well when compared to WLB.

I came from a company with a similar background (performance reviews but mostly just to check in and not tied to stack ranking or anything) and came here hoping for a better WLB and while I do work less than my previous job the culture is horrendous, management constantly gaslights associates about agreements/performance to justify PIPs, dings them if projects fail (even if entirely outside of associates control), and is very top down and you will need to follow orders from people who have no clue what they’re talking about because they’re either nepo or ex-Amazon or whatever, and lastly lots of people who are surprisingly “okay” with this abusive leadership and will side with them in a second over you if it benefits them at all if you can avoid those things somehow it would probably be decent but that seems increasingly difficult
