I have a masters in maths and cs from UCL + Cambridge with some research experience. I wanted to get into tech (applied scientist / MLE / etc), but after graduating last year the hiring freeze at FAANG in Europe was tough and I took a job as a Data Scientist at a consultancy. The job pays well (TC: ~105k, really good in Europe) and has catastrophic WLB (60h weeks). Now, I got an offer for an Applied Scientist Internship with Amazon this year. Ofc, I would need to quit my full time position. However, I don’t think getting a return offer from Amazon at the end of the internship, i.e Q1 2024 is likely. Still, I am really missing the research component in my current job and don’t see me developing in this direction in the long run. What are your thoughts? #amazon
Is it a startup? The first time I’m hearing about bad wlb in Europe.
I think the hours everywhere at MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) are long - also in Europe.
Is it BCG Gamma? How is the career track and pay like compared to BCG?
Why is the return offer unlikely?
Because Amazon currently has a hiring freeze an Applied Scientist positions, I believe. I know from a prev. AS, that no return offers were given in the last few months and I cannot count on this to change until Q1 2024.
I’d gladly listen to another insider opinion in the hiring situation though!
