I'm a pm right now at a small company(not SAP anymore) and massively burnt out on the toxic culture and insane hours after private equity acquisition. It's impacting my home life and health severely. I have plenty of savings to take time off and am considering quitting to reset. I can afford basically unlimited unemployment due to spouse working. I only have 3 yoe as pm which is concerning and don't want career suicide. I could try coasting and getting fired but it's hard for me to do that. TC 150 Thoughts? #misc #unemployment #product #quitting
It’s going to be tough finding a gig with only 3 YOE until the economy picks up. Quit or get fired and I’d make sure you’re ok with being funemployed for at least a year. Obviously your health comes first, but realize these next few years there’s going to be more competition for all roles. Any chances of a boomerang to SAP?
Id love to go back to sap but layoffs imminent. Great place to work even with low TC Thanks for your input
Good luck.
You can quit, PE ran firms = shitstain on the ressie. Suggest you take 2-3 weeks PTO, come back and quiet quit will you search.
I don't think quitting is career suicide at all. If you start job searching and find a new place soon, you don't even have to mention the gap. If it ends up taking 3 to 6 months you can say you took time off for personal reasons or for family/healthcare, I have done that personally. In the worst case it could take a year or two and at that point having only 3 years of experience might be a handicap. I guess the alternative is quiet quitting while you job search. But given that you have a secure income regardless, I wouldn't invest any more of your sanity and empathy into the toxic job.
How did culture and WLB change after PE acquisition? It’s always interesting how a few individuals can overturn an entire companies culture. Was everything fine prior to the acquisition?
All leadership immediately axed and replaced with serial PE folks. Few rif later and cycled in contractors and PE yes men. The rest is history. Was a great company before
Take a medical leave of absence, see a psychiatrist and therapist
The best time to look for a job is while you have a job. Ease up and recalibrate. Show up as far as your current role is concerned, but make time to get your house in order. You know, updated resume and tuned up professional social profile. Also, make time to reconnect with and extend your network. You’re in a great spot in that you could be fun employed indefinitely but you could probably just as easily shift your focus to your next role while still collecting a check and preparing to exit your current position. Good luck.
Someone else needs that seat if you don’t want it
I did it, took 2 years off and came back with a 45% pay cut but the happiest I've ever been at my new role, which I am 2-3 levels overqualified. No one wants to hire with such a long gap, but in time that will go away. Turns out my anxiety disorder was just an Amazon disorder. Better to suicide your career than yourself.
