Can anyone share their experience whether they quit their job to study for interviews? Has anyone experienced bias and questions about why they quit during the interview process?
Study at work
^^^^ this. Thank you
Bad idea: you will likely burn out if do LeetCode all day and you won’t be more effective. It’s much better to study 1 hour a day for 12day then a single 12 hour session. Plus you don’t get paid and don’t have a job.
"It’s much better to study 1 hour a day for 12 days than a single 12 hour session" - ascend23 This is one of the most useful concepts in life
I do it every time I switch jobs. I treat jobs like relationships; never leave one and go straight into the next. I need 90 days of study, reflection and realignment to go into my next role. It has always worked out well and allowed me to see 30+% raises each time. However, if the market changes and good positions become scarce you could find yourself in a bad position. This is your biggest risk.
30% raise... losses out on 25% of earning potential. How to turn a 30% raise into a 5% raise.
During the interview process, did anyone ask you why your employment ended?
Unless you're in a toxic work environment that's taking a toll on your mental health, it's a bad idea.
Dont quit. Just be a shitty employee, study at work and leave early.
Why would you keep yourself unhappy and not the best example of morale. Did you discuss your concerns @ work? Your manager will be in much more pain to lose a positive and good employee rather than non productive angry demotivating one
If OP is contemplating quitting with nothing lined up, they have already quit mentally. OP is probably not a positive and good employee right now. By committing to being a shitty employee OP can still get paid.
I personally think it’s helped me focus on just leetcoding and is a lot less stressful than having a job and leetcoding. For my job, i feel bad when i’m not delivering because i’m doing leetcode at work. I like to do it as it is much easier scheduling interviews as well. But obviously only if you are in a good financial position.
Luxuries of citizens
Just use up your PTO or medical leave
This is probably the best advice here
Are you sure you will use the time off well? What if you lose track of time, slack off and mess up your whole schedule? Studying alongside work at least gives you a well defined schedule
Terrible idea. And if you think like me, it’s probably just an excuse to sabotage yourself.
