Pls be gentle, blinder newb here 20+ YOE last 13 at the same “no name” company - life long coder, self taught/no degree, worked my way up from a c2c consultant to a tech director with 20+ direct reports TC 300 in NY Stayed loyal to the comp thru the whole boom/bust cycle - rif #layoff came with zero warning, instant disconnect - despite reporting directly to the CTO who bs me just days earlier about a new project/team… Longest I’ve been out of work in my life, severance dried up, bills stacking, running low on hope… Anyone else having this hard a time? Would appreciate advice (or referrals, or even a “hang in there” at this point)
Are you looking for IC positions too? Most managerial positions have dried up, might be easier to get an IC position and later change.
Yes def, I love to build stuff hands on and have continued to do so throughout have been applying for those too
Hang in there! Sending you positive vibes. It's the only thing I can do for you right now but hope it helps!
🙏
Godspeed brother hope it get better for you
hang in there.. hopefully something works out soon
DM for Atlassian
if you have ever fired someone brutally i hope this moment is giving you the reflection you need for how hard it is. good luck in your journey either way.
I’ve had to fire people before, fortunately never brutally. It never felt good having to do so, and really only did when all options had been exhausted. Always made sure to treat people with the utmost respect, empathy/compassion though. Thanks for the feedback and appreciate the best wishes. 🙏
What was your severance / emergency fund situation?
Bought a house a few years back which has kept me on a bare minimum emergency budget (3 mo), sev was 6 mo
I’m hiring for a startup in nyc, dm if interested

Sorry this happened to you . Are you leetcoding
Yes but can’t deny it’s excruciating - almost never have to code these up in the real world but understand the need to be able to choose the right approach when needed
