Is it worth moving to Florida for a Software Eng. position at Magic Leap

Trying to get an idea how Magic Leap is doing and is it worth moving from the Bay Area to Florida ?

What is the TC?!

No.

Unless you like Florida.

Apple MojaveX Feb 7, 2019

Tough one. Not many big tech companies in Florida if you choose to leave Magic Leap. But you get nice weather, and no state income tax

Microsoft BcrX06 Feb 7, 2019

Bay Area weather is fine.

With the experience I get should be easy to move back to the Bay Area right?

Florida beaches are the best in the world. Interview there and see for yourself.

Infinera qPIr08 OP Feb 7, 2019

I don’t really care about the beaches

Ask them to offer you a role in bay area office if they have a match here

It’s Dania Beach, which is realistically 2 hours away from the cool part of South Florida/Miami. There’s nothing to do except golf, eat seafood, or retire in that area. As for Magic Leap, they have offices around the world but I’m afraid they’re burning way too much cash for any sustainability with their product. Now, if we are talking about Miami, there are some areas definitely better worth living in than the Bay Area.

Infinera qPIr08 OP Feb 7, 2019

On a company level as well, Magic Leap isn’t worth joining?

Magic Leap ohnorandom Feb 8, 2019

HQ is not in Dania Beach, it's in Plantation, a suburb of Ft. Lauderdale. It's about 1hr away from Miami and 20 mins from Ft. Lauderdale. Both have a nightlife although obviously Miami's is bigger.

You could have stopped at Florida. Answer is no.
