Hey all - I did not realize that Amazon RSUs vest every 6 months after the initial two year period. Have a significant amount ($50k) vesting in about 3 months but have an offer from google. Obviously now that I know this is happening, I’d like to stay till they vest and then leave Amz. I was wondering if anyone was in a similar situation and had any advice on communicating this to the recruiter. Should I just be open and say that I’d like a later starting date? Thx!
Explain to the recruiter you would be forced to leave money on the table if forced to start sooner, unless they are willing to make you whole.
I can try, but don’t know if that would work. Anyway I’d like to put my effort into actually negotiating the offer than getting side tracked by things like this. I feel this may create an impression that I’m moving just for the comp etc.
It’s not side tracking anything, it’s in fact a crucial part of your offer negotiation, which should be taking your vest into account.
What’s your level and comp in G. Maybe you can ask G to increase the sign on for the rsu you will loose
Wait until you get the offer before you make any decision. You comp is already around 250k at Amazon and in a couple of months who knows how high the stock will go. Do you have competing offer to push g s offer . They could low ball you if they know you are so desperate to move
Not really desperate actually, like where I am at Amazon so I could always say no to google if they lowball. Let’s see.
Just give a start date 3 months out. Google isn't known for moving fast
I was in this situation when I joined AMZN. I told the recruiter I had a stock vest coming up and wanted to push my start date out by six weeks. They were fine with it.
Tell google to match it or wait. In my case they just gave me cash for the vest and I joined earlier.
Just say you want to finish up a big project for your team
Is there a reason to though? Is it bad if I’m just open about it?
