What’s the latest on it? Any interesting developments? Is the management still being tone deaf about it or are there promises being made to allow some flexibility?
Yes, leadership is tone deaf, some directors may not care or force but there is always the question of another employee reporting me
Another employee reporting you?! What is this? Kindergarten?! If your director doesn’t care why would anyone “report” you and to whom?
Apple has several cross org projects given the vertical structures of function instead of the traditional separation by product you will end up working with people who don't have this flexibility and they will escalate
At least at Meta and G you're returning to free food. What do you get at Apple?
Starting next week there’s a phased RTO, 1 day/week, then 2, then 3 for the real RTO ends of may. Till that moment you can get flexibility from your manager without any other higher up approval involved. Past May 23, any flexibility would required SVP approval. So I expect small scale RTO till may 23. But after that, whoever does not return means they got a higher up deal, which so far we being told requires some serious shit
Apple management is as tone deaf as usual. The 15th of April is a stock vest date, I expect to see many people quitting as soon as the cash lands in their accounts
I guess that’s for people hitting their 6 monthly vest date on April 15th? So for others it could be in the following months. When does Apple pay yearly bonuses?
Waiting for 4/15 to leave also. Bonuses are either in the spring (mid-year) or fall (Sept). Some have bonuses around WWDC.
My friends who left got 30-40% pay increases and permanent remote at competitors. Won't make sense for me to stay either, once I finish my RSU vesting cliff. Makes no sense. It's like Apple doesn't want to retain any talent
All the ICs talk about how dumb it is, all the M1-2 put on brave faces and talk about leading the way, VPs and SVP pray to god this won’t decimate their ability to deliver tentpole work and Tim Cook is a genius who sees the bigger picture that no one else can
Pretty much this. Or teams who are normally really chatty have become really quiet.
Most of the Apple folks I know are hanging in there just waiting to cash out on RSUs/bonus to move on. I really don't know any senior devs who are happy with Apple's RTO scheme and everyone's looking to jump ship ASAP.
Have few interviews scheduled, hope I get one
Good luck!
Any luck?
