I had the initial screening with Goldman Sachs 10 days ago before Thanksgiving and it was all about behavioral questions. The HM was happy and mentioned, he'll have a few more technical screenings scheduled and also mentioned that the interview process may continue to the month of January as well due to the holidays season. The response from the recruiter today is a typical denial message. Not sure what went wrong and what changed meanwhile. Is it a mess up with the feedback on the candidate or is it a norm at GS and any other companies too? What can I respond to the email from the recruiter? TC $145,000
Just move on. I was in process with a company since September and after all screenings/loops, the HM was supposed to send me a case study before thanksgiving week(not sure why the case wasnt already ready) and HM slacked for two weeks. Got this response: Hi ABCD, Thank you for taking the time to interview with Company_name for the Role_name role. We heavily appreciate both your time and interest in joining our company! We want to first and foremost thank you for your patience as the team (and more specifically, HM_name) worked through updates during the holiday - we understand that the process has evolved a bit from what was originally intended (incorporating a revised case study as well), and through it all, we appreciate your understanding as things evolved. With that being said, we wanted to provide an update on the search. Unfortunately at this time, upon reflection the team has decided to update certain aspects of the role as well as functional areas that this role_name would be managing, so we have ultimately decided to move forward with other candidates at this time. We realize and understand that you may want more detailed feedback. For legal reasons, company_name unfortunately has a policy of not providing additional information. Again, thank you for your time, energy and effort you invested in our interview process. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Regards, Recruiter_name
Thanks for your response. Hope the experience helps you in your upcoming job searches and wish you good luck.
What was the job family? SWE or something else?
Sorry to hear, OP. Could have been one of a hundred different things. It's good for us to remind ourselves that being at the right place at the right time is pure luck with a lot of these interviews. Don't take it personally and just keep applying! You'll find an awesome role that you'll enjoy and get money 💰 for!
FWIW, I got rejected once and they contacted me again several months later and I got the offer. When we interview candidates we can either mark reject or consider for other roles. I’m assuming based on the response that you were marked as consider for other roles so there may still be other opportunities in the future.
It sometimes happens that companies get better candidate and move on. The hiring manager took a risk when they communicated decision on the spot. Generally, interviewers are discouraged to do so. Sorry OP. Hope you keep applying. Has recruiter said what is the cooloff period?
Didn't mention any cool off period, but here's what their response about that We will keep your resume and information on file and will continue to share your resume with other teams where there may be a fit. If there is interest to have further conversations, we will reach out to you directly
