https://www.mysanantonio.com/business/technology/article/San-Antonio-based-Rackspace-10-percent-layoffs-16332426.php Confirmed reports of Rackers losing their jobs with backfills outside the US. "The company adds that up to 85 percent of those layoffs "will be backfilled in the Company’s offshore service centers." #rackspace #layoffs #outsource #offshore #layoff
This will keep happening? Why would ANY company pay high american costs when an offshore employee can do the same in Mexico or India?
Why would ANY company pay high american costs in Bay Area when an employee elsewhere in the US can do the same at lower cost?
Most of those companies are still operating with pre-covid standards and under control of Old people. HQ will stay there but the HC will be moved out
Is this Apollo’s doing?
Winter is coming
Rackspace, the shittiest company I ever had the misfortune of working for. They keep calling Rackers family and then screw them in the A$$.
You work there when Apollo took over?
Unfortunately, yes. And I was laid off in the second culling.
The real reason for this layoffs is everyone is moving to the cloud from the traditional rackspace environment.
This is not fully true. Rackspace is off shoring so many positions. (Technical and Non-technical). Rackspace let go of technical people in the US at a pretty shocking rate this go round. The Rackers they are hiring now to replace them will not be at their level for many years. The customers have been complaining about these changes, but it doesn't seem to impact the mighty dollar quite like firing your skilled employees. Selling the "Cloud" idea is all they have to go on at this point. Seeing this change over the years is just sad.
85% backfilled in service centers. So this means they mostly laid off customer service reps?
Not just CSRs. They laid off at least 25 from my department (including me) all in engineering roles. I'm not too surprised the writings been on the wall. On the bright side, some of the engineering roles have termination dates 4-7 months out which gives people some time to figure things out.
Gives you time to look but you have to stay the length of it or you won't get your compensation, plus you get the joy to train your direct replacements. Feels bad man.
The 'zero automation' company.
Can you please give me referral
This happens with a lot of cloud providers. Rackspace no longer has fanatical support. They have lost their way after the original CEO left.
