Hi, I went through the virtual onsite. I did ok on the behavioral (some of my stories weren't stellar, but we had nice chats), and very well on the technical (the interviewer said I was one of his best candidates so far). They have reached out to extend an offer for a P3 (Senior) SWE position. In my understanding this is pretty much on par with what they offer for this level, but I'm curious, in what areas could we push for a bit more. What do you think? Location: LA Base: $175K (I asked for >=180K, they said it's feasible) Bonus: 15% LTI: 15% Dual-vest equity: ~$40K (0/30/30/40 over 4 years) (Sign-on is not guaranteed, but they mentioned ~$18K if it goes through approvals) I still have 2 on-sites lined up with other companies, and when I told them they seemed like they really want me to join, so I feel like there's some wiggle room. But I don't have any offers in hand yet, so I'm not sure how much leverage I have. Edit: - Mid P3 proficiency - After some negotiation, we ended up with 180K base, 20K sign-on. Current TC: ~160K 🥜 #gaming #riotgames #tech
You can only really push back on sign on and the base (equity is pointless since they aren’t going public anytime in the foreseeable future).
I wouldn’t say RSUs are pointless, but I wouldn’t also rely on them too much. When the RSUs were first introduced, leadership hinted they will do buy back events with some cadence. But we don’t know when exactly. RSUs got just introduced at Riot at the beginning of this year.
I'm confused on RSU's, the buyout happened when Tencent took over everything [LOL @ the KFC bucket drama]. That being said I'm assuming the RSU's given are Tencent stock correct?
How long did it take you to hear back?
About 2 weeks for the verbal offer and 4 until the formal one.
4 weeks from accepting the verbal offer to getting a written offer? Why does it take so long??
How does LTI works? Do you get LTI in ur first year?
In my understanding, you get the LTI% of the first year’s salary over 3 years. 1st year: 1/3 LTI, 2nd year: 1/3 LTI, 3rd year: 1/2/3 times multiplier of the 1/3 LTI based on performance. This could be 0 though, I was told that is very unlikely, unless you are absolutely useless.
lower than the offer i got a few years back. definitely wiggle room. close your other 2 onsites and push for a higher cash component.
Lower in what sense? As far as I know bonuses are set per level, so base/stock? How much lower?
Riot has moved to a very structured Job Architecture and comp model last 2 years. And our bonus structure changed. During this time we slightly lowered our base salary bands but we now have two bonuses and small amount of RSUs. (Back in the days, our base salary bands were higher but there was only a single bonus and no RSUs) Even under each title like “Senior software engineer” now we have 3 proficiencies “1-Learning, 2-Proficient and 3-advanced” And each proficiency has a target base comp number. During the interviews we rank you at a title and proficiency. Once that is set, it is nearly impossible to negotiate the base comp since we follow the same rules with our own employees. Doesn’t hurt to ask, but I’ll be very surprised if they adjust the base. All numbers come from comp team and they are all about fairness to other Rioters. (And the other side of the coin, we don’t lowball folks. Even if you had said you were expecting 100k as a base, we would offer you whatever the title/proficiency target is) PS: I’m a hiring manager at Riot.
