Is the Director title worth the lower comp? For context, I’m 35+ and this would be my first Director title. Been somewhat stagnant at Senior/Principal level for ~7 years. The role at Hulu is also something that I’m more interested in (recommender systems) and I prefer LA over Bay Area to live in.
Does the Director role come with direct reports or is it one of those IC Director roles?
Surprised Hulu pays so low for Director role.
Surprised me too. Expected RSUs to be closer to 125-150K annually.
Are you a new L6? Comp seems low
That’s not a huge difference in TC. I would take the director role. If you were able to get in Google now, you can certainly get in future as well. Btw what material did you use for Google prep. Can you share some helpful tips and pointers ?
Mostly did a bunch of mock interviews (40+). Key is finding 3-4 mock partners who are at the level you’re interviewing for and are willing to provide brutally honest feedback. If it’s hard finding good mock partners, I’d invest in a coach and do 5-7 mocks with the coach. For resources, I read Decode and Conquer and used TryExponent. Hope that helps!
Thanks. That’s great. 💯% agree that difficult to find good movkmpartners. If you don’t mind me asking what level at good you were interviewing for ? Did you find the interview to be similar to exponent videos ?
Equity component of your Google offer is way low.
Seems to be lowball but they’re not willing to move any further.
The title opens up more doors and the comp is negligible. You should check if the director band is greater than the Google L6 band too so you know your 4 year trajectory.
They really can’t give you more equity? 65k a year for a director is pitiful. If they can bump tc to 400 I’d take it immediately. LA is cheaper than bay area but not by your prospective pay cut Just my random thoughts gl
That’s what I was thinking too. They offered more RSUs but lower base. Overall TC would be the same :/
