I've been relying on forums, Reddit, and YouTube for good information for my career choices. But now, my questions are becoming more specialized for my role and my goals, and I'm feeling a bit lost. It's not just about knowing the tech anymore; it's also about making strategic moves and planning ahead. Im gaining increased value of some books like The Startup of You and similar titles that im currently re-reading, but its somewhat lacking value-wise, compared to the advice that I wish I was given and im giving university friends who are a few steps behind me technical and career-wise. So, what do I do now? I'm considering trying to find a mentor or someone who's been there, but I need to be very picky, and I really would like someone who has been really technical or at least knows the lay of the land from a technical standpoint. Does anyone have any advice or input? Maybe there are some Blinders that have been in a similar spot and got any pointers? Edit: I have 4 Yoe, a master's and currently working as a technical security resource #cybersecurity #Careers #Mentor

You're not going to get a lot of tactical value out of business books. What really worked for me was to build a network of mentors and pay for an executive coach.
Where do you find good mentors and executive coach? Any tips?
Do skip-level with your manager's manager. Say you're interested in getting into management/executive roles and would appreciate brokering introductions to a mentor within the company. You can then work outward from there. You can also try paid groups, but YMMV.
Your manager, tech lead, and other mentors in the company. It's been very beneficial for me.
You need a mentor. That is the exact use case.
DM me.. I know someone who really helped me .

Yeah that's probably good for context, added the edit. 4 Yoe and I have the most experience in Security engineering and SOC. But also some broader work as a consultant. Masters in Computer engineering.
