Given what’s been happening in the IT industry with mass layoffs being a constant theme since 2022 despite record earnings, I’m reminded of former Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata who in 2013 was asked why hasn’t Nintendo commenced layoffs given the poor financial results they reported, he said: “If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease, I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world." He then proceeded to cut his pay by 50% and the pay of many other executives within Nintendo. This is what true leadership and accountability versus what we’ve been seeing among vanilla CEOs. #layoffs
Japanese have a strong sense of social responsibility. This is not the case anywhere else in the world except for maybe Germany.
What if layoffs are intentionally aimed at reducing the number of software titles that could impress people around the world?
Will bet $100 that this one of the top things not gonna happen in present day USA. I remember Jack Dorsey doing such a thing back in 2014 during Twitter days but not gonna happen in the present days.
Didn’t Tim Cook take a 50% pay cut and not lay people off?
