Really want to retire

$3M net worth, 42. FIRE target is $5M but every day is such a grind. Should I just throw in the towel and live on lower expenses ~$100k?

Grinding here too man, want to help me out with a Figma referral? Regarding retiring, is your yearly expense around 100k and if you have a paid off house then you can probably pull the trigger. But better to do a mini retirement/take some months off and reevaluate. Can probably get to 4M this year, market looks strong with the AI growth, can def get 30% gains if not more.

You can coast fire. Take an easier job, then spend more of your income on things to make your life easier/happier.

This. My spouse took a 4x10, remote government contracting job to finish his career. The job has zero stress and politics. It offers great health insurance, an impediment to retiring too early, but salaries only range from $125-$175K.

@Glinda: how did your spouse find that job?

Humble brag post, I hate you

Is 3M at 42 really bragging though. A lot of posts here seem to say 1m networth in late twenties.

Yes it is, All these posts "I have x million, can I retire?" People that have earned that much cannot possibly be that stupid to not know if they can retire, they just post this stuff to brag.

Never FIRE that early there are too many people that need support from younger workers. Society would collapse if everyone stops working at 45. Just do a different job if you're tired
