I know there are lot of people who are trying very hard to get a GC due to various circumstances and many more in endless queue due to broken immigration system. But I just recieved my GC and I dont see or feel any difference. Life was same on H1b. Does the GC give any benefit which I don鈥檛 know of? Sorry I am not very educated on immigration stuff hence the question.
You can work 40 hours a week now. That's the difference
You can take a break between jobs, take more risks when choosing where you want to work next, take a sabbatical.
Peace of mind..yes mind is all it matters
Well said, that's the biggest one
Had it before and is same now too
Travel to Canada and Mexico without visa
You can on h1b too I believe or get one with very less hassle. It鈥檚 not like I will wake up and go there so the visa stamping planning if need is was fine.
For people from some countries getting visa takes loooong. With GC it is much easier. You can also get TSA pre.
Come on, this country is your home now
You can stop caring about terms like RFE, 221g, DS160, I797 etc. That's some relief. Congratulations!
Because 2020 is predicted to be end of the universe
I鈥檓 not from China or India, but have been going through so many things because of GC. Due to the constant layoffs, my PERM was filed after 6 yrs. I was thinking about going back to my country or Canada. I got a depression and anxiety made me break up my ex-gf that I鈥檇 loved so much for 2 yrs. My promo was slow. My TC is way below the average or even the bottom. People advised me to stay in the first company until getting GC, but it made me very uncomfortable situation. Now I鈥檓 still worried about getting laid off
Sorry to hear. And it鈥檚 already lucky that you鈥檙e not from countries with long backlog. I think you can leave the company once 140 approved鈥hy bother to stay until you get the card?
Not to be rude of disrespectful but this seem like a problem which you made by yourself. Getting depressed over an immigration status is not good. What was the worse that could have happen? You would have moved back home or some other country and adjusted your life style accordingly.
Yeah you can start a business, teach on the side, whatever you feel like
Which people rarely do in practice, no matter how much they'd talked about it while on H1B?
You can quit your job anytime. No visa transfer delay when you get a new one. Unemployment benefits if you get laid off.
