Recommended neighborhoods commuting to Apple Cupertino campus?

Currently live in San Diego and in talks with Apple recruiter about hardware / systems engineering positions (ICT3-4) in Cupertino. Part of my compensation negotiation strategy will depend on housing costs (setting a minimum threshold to accept offer). For someone who is looking to rent, what neighborhoods would you suggest? Goals: * 2 BR apt/condo/townhome * Washer and Dryer In-Unit * Reasonable commute to office via transit + bicycle (I share a car with my partner) * Rent <= 30% of *take-home* pay for 1 person #Apple #housing

Are you looking at a VP position or something?

Innoflight mXpx80 OP May 13, 2022

Clearly not. I just don't want to be housing cost burdened. But I'm gathering you don't think that's possible anywhere in the bay area?

San Jose is generally not as expensive as the peninsula. There's shuttle from SJ to main campus in Cupertino. $3k budget for 2br + laundry is tight, but doable I think. Anything lower than that you'll be living in a dumpy 2br.

$3.5k

How do we know 30% of your take home if there’s no TC?

Innoflight mXpx80 OP May 13, 2022

I have no offer yet. I specified the level of the position(s) so readers would have a general idea of TC. Honestly, I'm still trying to figure out if relocating to the bay is worth it. I was already heavily leaning toward leaving CA, but maybe 1-3 years in FAANG will give my career a boost.
