I feel very fortunate to have a great paying job at a great company. However , getting here was annoying and further hearing from friends still looking shows some annoying trends. The main three for this rant being: * offers being rescinded last minute * positions being closed at the salary round * recruiters “packing and ghosting” The first two; ok you’re running a business, this happens. Still, this used to be rare and this seems like the norm now. Like until you get your first paycheck, you don’t know if you “got” the job. But the last one is my biggest gripe. Recruiters new trend is to “pack” as many engineers to their Rolodex or for a job, and then ghost them. They’ll said say “this company is looking to move fast!” And no word for a week or more or never. It does take that much to check in with your candidates; especially in this market with many waiting desperately for information. I’ve had a recruiter call me for a job, 2 days later say the positions were out in joke, and 2 days after they a different recruiter calls about the same job saying as far as they know it’s open. The job market is crazy, and recruiters ( and by extension some companies ) are abusing the depressed market. I would hope recruiters would lean towards being more thoughtful of those looking for jobs. As for the companies, I don’t feel bad asking for all the TC I can because in the end companies have their bottom line in mind, not my well being , no matter what the CEO rattles off about “caring for our employees “. That’s all, just needed a little Blind rant.
To add to your last point, candidates pour their energy into preparing for interviews they align well, do well and receive immediate positive feedback, and candidate receives a response that they decided to go ahead with another candidate who aligned well. This is because greedy companies have 10 people interviewing for the same job and you need to beat your competitors
Whoever has the power always acts entitled. Couple years ago the candidates acted that way, ghosting during interview process, accepting offer but not joining etc. Now the shoe is on the other foot. So stop whining and move on.
Nah, employers have always lied and treated employees poorly. That's a long standing corporate America tradition. Then candidates got fed up and started reciprocating giving employers a taste of their own medicine. It's only fair and if everyone just bent over and took it, then nothing would change. At this point employers and employees deserve each other.
As a hiring manager I def remember when the shoe was in the other foot. However , as mentioned, its the change in recruiters, specifically outside recruiters. They used to somewhat champion for the candidate ( let’s be honest they had skin I the game ), but now they’re worse than in-house recruiters.
