My friend is leaving FB after spending time as an RPM and then getting promoted to L4 PM. Can recruiters verify his level when he's recruiting for new opportunities? In other words, what would stop him from representing himself as an L5 or L6 PM and using that to find more senior level opportunities?
They can see in background check I'm pretty sure.
They can't for Facebook.
They will know easily - atleast between fb and google - it’s a constant cyclic flow , there are many data points and many internal contacts - the moment a mismatching data comes you will be ghosted
At Google you can opt in to hiding level in internal tools, at least below L6-L7 or so. Only your management would know for sure
It's just best practice not to lie. If caught at some point, your integrity will be in question and everything you do will be affected.
Says the guy who works for Uber lol
What does that have to do with being honest as an individual?
They can easily find out in BGV check, especially at the big tech companies , they have multiple ways for confirming the same thing again.
Hypothetically speaking both FB and G have the same problem of finding your current level. And hypothetically speaking a symbiotic relationship between old pals helps both of them get the needed information
They shouldn’t be requiring that you provide them with your level.
Stop giving him fake information. They can not verify your level with a background check — what a joke. Generally it is easy to sniff out levels from an interview. Furthermore your friend was in the RPM program so his level will be "junior" now translate that to whatever place he is going to.
Apparently they cant get your FB level from a background check, but they can get your google level
I don't think HR will give out level so officially doesn't seem possible to verify level. But there could be reference checks, or informally people between companies talk. Lastly your friend is L4 and might not be able to play the part of a L5 in interviews, which would destroy credibility. TC will get a nice bump, cheating on level is not worth it at all imo.
They can’t verify but why would you want to lie about your level? You hurt your chances asking for a level too high or too low. It’s about finding that sweet spot and giving it your best shot. They also level by scope of your current role, years of experience, etc.

Biden wants to raise capital gains tax to 40%
That’s a good question because I was discussing promotion and how it would effect offers and my coworkers asked how would they know and I said fb asked me and someone said they are not allowed to ask in California and I don’t think that’s true
Not sure about not asking level in CA but asking for current compensation is not allowed
