I'd like to apologize for my arrogant attitude from the start... I wanted to share this - may be useful for someone. I have a lot of interesting experience and a decent CV, normally get at least invited to all big names interviews (FB, Goog, AMZN etc) I applied to one of the interesting (in my view) jobs at Reddit (i do it sometimes for fun - no strong intention to work there). I was presented with a huge form asking me to state my sexual orientation(!!!), whether i am transgender(!!!) and a bunch of similar questions. I am not a proud transgender - nothing unusual. I was offended by those questions and chose 'decline to identify' on all of them, but still filled in reasonable employment related asks and applied. Next day i've got a rejection email from them (no reasons given), they did not invite me for screening - that was unusual :) (my CV/experience is good, usually get invited) Not sure but i am inclined to think that may be because i did not fill in all those sex orientation etc questions??? Who does work for reddit? Opinions? P.S. sorry, i did not expect that much feedback... I was generally puzzled and wanted some feedback... the post and the Reddit employment questionnaire is real - if you want to see for yourself you can find it on the Linkedin and click "apply" (it is safe and not going anywhere till you click "submit") P.P.S. as it turned out asking sex orientation questions is not illegal. Thanks @Intuit for clarifying. https://work.chron.com/ask-race-job-applications-31050.html "Some companies might use this information from job applications to weed out applicants who don’t meet the diversity goals that the company is seeking to meet. In extreme cases, unethical managers might use the information to discriminate, which is illegal."
Hahahahhah yeah man that’s definitely it. You should get called back for every single job you apply for, that is so weird they didn’t.
A) they dodged a bullet, because you are blaming your bad resume on the LGBTQ community, etc. you’d be a toxic coworker. B) FAANG interviews everyone. They have a lot of HC. It’s easy to land an interview at FAANG. Reddit is much smaller.
You can always fill out the form again, except with any answers to the questions. That way you have some sort of A/B test. But more likely your resume didn't get looked at by a human.
Companies don’t use those forms to find “trans gender” people. They have programs to reach out or target certain groups if they want to hit a quota. Your CV was probably not a good match for the role. Just because you get invites, doesn’t mean you are always going to get throw in an interview loop. You are better off getting a referral
And please nobody here give OP a referral. He seems toxic AF and deserves to stay in chase.
@Amazon: Marking someone as 'toxic' just because they want to keep their sex life private sounds like not too wise
What makes you think declining those questions were the reason for your rejection? You make it sound like you’re entitled to be ‘invited’ to an interview. Also, why do you refer to yourself as a ‘normal’ guy? Trans people are also people and are normal. What’s there to be offended by those questions?
I do not appreciate being asked about my sexual orientation in the job questionnaire. Why does it need to be explained? I am not applying for a h****r job - just a software dev role (please people do not go into similarities :)
I would fire you if I could OP
Sounds like you're just looking for something to complain about. You're mad because they didn't let you waste their time by getting interviewed for a position you don't actually want.
Yes, I am so obsessed with hiring people that reveal their sexual identity that I am willing to open myself up for massive lawsuits. That's my pierogi (🤤)
10/10 shitpost well done OP
sorry Citi, I was generally puzzled and did not expect that much response... I promise i wont do it again
Obvious bait but well written, props for that at least
it's not bait - i commented as to how to find said job advert
They’re not lying. I just did what OP wrote in their post to find the job and I also saw the job application where they ask if you are transgender, what your sexual orientation is, your gender identity, and your pronouns. Why does a job application need to know all that?
That's illegal. They wouldn't reject you for that
