Hi, I interviewed with Reddit for most of March 2022- April 2022 for a senior engineer position. I received very positive feedback for my tech screen and also got an email that my on-site feedback was very positive. The recruiter set up a follow up hiring manager interview where the person and I didn’t exactly click. The hiring manager didn’t really seem to care that I was there and wasn’t remotely excited. About a week later I received a rejection email which is really odd considering I performed very well and got that feedback following my onsite. I don’t understand how I could get very positive on-site feedback but a single hiring manager mismatch could get me rejected? It sucks to have spent time preparing, perform well and have very positive feedback to be only to be rejected. Ethically I expected better if Reddit. #Reddit #tech #softwareengineer #interview
Move on! Many things unrelated to your performance could be a problem.
Happened with me at Microsoft during whiteboard test where the manager was least interested to interact with me and was busy feeding his dog. Got a rejection mail soon. But fortunately another manager from a different team contacted me a week after and everything went well. ✌️
Move on man! I understand your frustration, cuz I had a similar experience with Meta. Was approved for all interviewers and after HC meeting, I got an email saying that my performance was great, but they decided to move on with other candidates. The recruiter never provided me any explanation about the reason for decision. It was super frustrating, specially because the entire interview process took more than 2 months.
In terms of fairness. I think companies should strive to be fair to their candidates. I'm not speaking on life in general, that would be a bit too philosophical for this post. Agreed its an unprofessional look as a manager to not be passionate meeting candidate who had received positive feedback from your engineering peers. It's a good signal to me thats a not a team I want to work with.
What team did you interview for?
Hey, I recently finished my loop too, did you end up getting an offer?
Same thing happened to me. Answered all questions and beyond. It was probably one of the best interview I had. But nope, got an email rejection.
This is why as a candidate, you also need to be ultra selective. If the HM is obviously not interested DURING the interview, thank them for their time and end the interview early. Let the recruiter know right away their lack of interest, and that you'd like to speak to a different HM. Otherwise the HM will block you and thereby a "rejection". Very convinient for other to say "move on"
Move on. They aren't going to reverse the decision.
