Apollo for iOS just announced they’re shutting down at the end of the month due to Reddit’s new API pricing. Popular Android clients like RIF, Sync, and others shutting down as well. Is it over for Reddit? TC: 280k https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/
Let's be real, we all just look for uncensored OF on there.
Speak for yourself, buddy.

Reddits turned into such a shit heel of a company since I first started using it 10 years ago.
Sad, this is going to hurt Reddit, a lot.
Good
I browse my local city and some hobby pages. Tbh I don’t cares about indie apps freeloading on Reddit. Think of a better business idea 😂 Also LOL at Reddit though because their army of volunteer NEETs are going to shut down parts of the site to protest
Sorry I’m honestly just slow and lazy to understand this fully. Would someone please eli5 what Reddit has done? Are they just increasing the api price and screwing 3rd party apps?
All that matters is that they are acting against our interests and I need you on our side
Basically Reddit went from charging nothing to what the Apollo dev estimated to be around $20m a year for his app’s usage. Even if he agreed to that amount, he’d need a few months to figure out how to make the numbers work. Reddit gave him 30 days to sign a contract, so he and other apps just decided to shut down
I have no idea what this app is but is it not possible to reduce the footprint on Reddit with some caching, cdn? If it’s too expensive for this app then I imagine a ton of others would as well but reddit can’t be so stupid to price thing’s completely unreasonably. I don’t buy that argument
Even if there was a way to optimize his app to reduce costs, Reddit only gave him 30 days after announcing their pricing to sign a contract. Between development, testing, and adjusting his pricing model to stay afloat, he’d need months to make it work
Seems like a short term issue. Could take a loss for 1-2 month. Doesn’t seem like a big deal in the long run unless the app’s traffic will decrease.
They are preparing to IPO and need to monopolize ad space LOL.
