Would it make sense to move to Redfin or Zillow from MS? I’m in office marketing. Would I be able to come back to microsoft. Are Redfin and Zillow considered more tech companies or More real estate companies ? Would I be able to go into saas companies after that
Thank you, makes sense. I’m in tech marketing. I assume it’s the same logic. As long as the perception about them is that they are technology companies and I am marketing tech solutions as I don’t really have a desire to change industry.
I wouldn’t do it. Seems like a downgrade. And your odds of jumping to FAANG are much better coming from MSFT.
I can only speak for tech but I would agree with Google. The brand name is not as big. It’s a good place to cruise if you have a family or simply want better wlb with acceptable pay. Not so much for career growth. I see ourselves more of a real estate company that leverages tech. We don’t have that many engineering problems to solve just because there is no need to with our current scale. I have no idea about our marketing roles though and it can be very different with what I said. I don’t think it hurts to interview and chat with the hiring manager though. It’s always good to practice anyways and maybe the team/role/product aligns with what you are looking for.
1) MSFT Office marketing seems non-existent, so definitely no marketing clout imo 2) Redfin/Zillow will have much better stock appreciation 3) Redfin and Zillow actually do real marketing 4) Why do you want to work in SAAS as a marketer?? Honestly, in tech, just find high growth companies. FAANG stocks are stalled and high risk for regulation very soon.
Redfin and Zillow stock will have better stock appreciation than Microsoft? Lol

Hey! At Redfin, we actually have a good number of ex-Microsoft people. I would say Redfin and Zillow are real estate companies looking to disrupt the industry using tech. If you are a good engineer, I don't see why you can't go back to Microsoft if you wanted to. And what is preventing you from going to another SaaS company? :) Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about Redfin!
