I’ve been seeing people offering referrals to people they don’t know. I wonder how they evaluate if the “referree” has the right skills and experience for certain roles. Can someone explain that? I always assumed that if I refer someone I somehow vouch for them 👀
most ppl referrals at a company go into a voidless pipeline so it literally doesn’t matter if they vouch for them or not
Personally I have zero qualms referring complete strangers if they’re at least somewhat qualified for the job
I don’t mean to talk shit on GE but is that really the standard there? “At least somewhat qualified?” Most companies in the current market are like if they’re not amazing keep that shit out of my resume pile.
A lot of times: - for the referrer: there’s an incentive to make referrals, eg $3k or $5k or so if they get hired. So they lie and say they know the candidate to qualify for this - for the candidate: they get shortlisted to recruiters, so they’re guaranteed to at least be screened by a person. The former point is probably why people offer referrals to begin with, the latter helps the candidate get a leg up vs just cold applying. Often these referrals don’t negatively impact the referrer at all, though I’m not sure that’s true everywhere. eg I have never seen anyone offer a Netflix referral on Blind.
I referred a ton of people to Robinhood and after the second one they cut me off and just said I can’t refer anymore. My last company would always make excuses not to pay the bonus.
Yeah, Blind referers can also be helpful in having someone give you insights on teams to avoid or that have more interesting work. I know some people on LinkedIn who'll refer anyone, they generally had a positive vibes personality when I knew them. Helping people find jobs can also help should you find yourself laid off.
It’s a complete joke. People think that an employee putting their resume into the system is somehow better than them applying directly. Every company I’ve ever worked at differentiates referrals vs network referrals (people you actually know). The only way a Blind candidate is getting a leg up is if the referrer lies about knowing the person and they’re putting their own ass on the line for absolutely no reason.
This ^ , just say network lead when referring and don’t lie.
