I have an offer from Meta that I'm almost certainly going to reject in favor of taking a career sabbatical in Europe. I'm curious if anyone knows what the consequences would be of: 1. Rejecting the offer now 2. Accepting the offer (maintains optionality in case I change my mind) and possibly quitting within a month. The offer isn't exploding or anything, but I'm supposed to start December 4th in order to maximize my chance at an uplevel in July. If I don't take the position, it's my intention to reapply in 6 months to a year, if feasible. I would appreciate any insights!
Why were you applying to places if you knew you couldn’t start work?
didn't realize how burnt out I was until the interview process was over
It would be easy to postpone join date by 3 months.
You will be blacklisted if you join and leave in 1 month. manager will put you as non-regret attrition.
Use some sickness in the family for an aunt that hosted you for years when young and that you need to visit for months before her terminal illness takes her. Who cares about a 3 months delay in the long term?
🤣
Arent Meta offers valid for a year? Would it allow you to keep the job, while still taking your sabbatical if you asked to postpone the start date by 6 months due to personal reasons?
This kind of 1-year validity are worth nothing in this market, IMO. At Google the hiring committee decision is also valid for 1 year; doesn’t mean there will be any headcount for you. So I wouldn’t use this as an argument…
