For smart, ambitious people without any education, there are a lot of blue collar trades that pay 150k a year with some hustle. The smartest ones set up shop and clear way more. (I met a car dealer who has a personal target to sell 100 cars a month at a 1k$ margin. He clearlys 60k a month after expenses AND taxes) The smarter software engineers get into FANG and have an existential crisis over making 120k after taxes (200k pretax?). 😂 Minimum wage makes you 30k a year. You get a tax advantage and you net ~35k a year. After taxes a 150k software engineering job leaves you with 80k. Thats like 2X what you would make with no brain at all. You can’t even afford a house in the city you work in. Sit down and get back to work
I’ve been saying this!! Why chase faang when an owner of a Pizza Hut makes 3x your TC.
"U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, about 20 percent of small businesses fail within their first year"
Just 20%? Fu ck , those are great odds. You could probably write off the failures as having large character flaws? Almost a 100% chance of success then if you’re smart?
Lol how is this supposed to relax anyone 😂
You can make a lot of money if u hussle right. I used to make $30/hr as a roofer, and i could pull in $1500 on a good weekend with side work. My friends who stuck with it are making about the same as me, but theyre managers now. If u own a small roofing place u can make over 500k a year. But a lot of risk.
Yeah people really underestimate how far a little bit of hustle can get you in this country.
Sounds like it could be volatile. Recession strikes, people out off roof replacements. And that’s more volatile than a FANG job if you aren’t PIP worthy
"what you would make with no brain at all" the arrogance of a software engineer! 👌
That might be an exaggeration, but you don't need a degree, you don't need to handle the mental stress of leets yet you get paid half that if a software engineer, not a bad deal
MINIMUM WAGE
You’re not “overpaid” unless you’re paid well above your market value as a software engineer. What you could make as a car salesman has no relevance to this.
The true is, if you make less than 1m a year. you are not overpaid
Remember 50% goes to taxes. Sooooooo more like 2MM
The car salesman works hard though. I've definitely been overpaid due to luck much of my life.
Working hard is irrelevant. Digging the biggest hole isn’t useful unless someone wants that hole dug.
Correct and people want to buy cars.

Car dealers are expert bullshit artists. If he were selling 100 cars a month then they would have cut his commissions by now. Also a meeting with an interested customer takes approximately 3 hours. That's maybe 2 cars a day which is 5x4x2 cars a month max...
He had a team and a innovative setup. Regular salesman probably make 50-60k a year?. Smart guy. Would be a PM @ FANG lol
Oh, so his entire business is making 60k income a month? That's not much if you factor in the minimum 10k lease, employee costs, loan interest, cars that don't sell and depreciate and many more... And just to back myself up: "Dealership owners in a good business can earn an average of $33.73 per hour, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics." P.s. Dev in FANG
