Hi Blinders! Recently I got an offer from Amazon. It is an ASIC design role in the Kuiper project. Now I am in the Bay Area. This offer provides 20% TC increase. I will provide the break down once I accept/reject the offer. At least, from the numbers here this sounds like a no-brainer. But my family and my house are all here in the Bay. The life would be impacted hugely. For example, I need to convince my wife to quit with me and seek a new job in the Seattle area too. Also, there are not many ASIC design positions in the Seattle area. The openings count in the Bay is at least 10X more comparing to the Seattle. This would limit my career path. I have to move back to the bay again most likely. If you also have a family, you know how troublesome it is. How is this project Kuiper? I like the project itself. However, as far as I know, it is still pending FCC approval. Is there a risk? Will this project be cancelled? Thanks! #career #hardware #bayarea #seattle #amazon #asic
You could still give the initial numbers. Interested, I was thinking of the openings to. How was the interview? Could you give some more details?
Can't you work remotely until your wife find a job?
Finding a new job would take up to half year for my wife. IMO, working remotely brings extra communication cost. It also slow down the work efficiency in some degrees. Even the HM agrees, I will still try my best to be onsite. Accepting that offer means I am willing to make my contribution delicately. Thanks for your suggestion still, I can check with the HM maybe I can work remotely for the first few weeks.
With Covid, the work pattern change and it is more likely to work from home as a trend. Also, just my thought as I moved to Seattle for the job and my wife agreed to stay home. Different lifestyle of what is half the the previous total household income. There are pros and cons. Check on housing maybe you gain some selling home in the bay area and get cheaper one in the northwest, not that much cheaper.
Kuiper sounds like a fun project and I know a lot of talented guys working there, but imo SpaceX is going to kill them. They already have constellations going up and Kuiper is still system planning.
First version is not usually the first for our stuffs... As long as that is what you enjoy to do and the team is good. Should be fine
Project kuiper folks, what's the TC like? Especially hw. Would be great of some of you shed light on that. Thanks.
Tc?
What's the TC?
Whats the TC breakdown?
Are you on H1b? Kuiper project only considers US citizens or green card. I wanted to move to Seattle for family reason. They never considered me because of h1b.
Only Citizen and GC are eligible
Thank you.
