I recently recieved an offer from a large tech company in San Francisco for a summer internship. The company is “remote first” with 60% fully remote. The internship is supposed to be non remote of course. I love the company, but really can’t relocate for the full summer due to my family situation. How can I respectfully request to be remote for the summer? I would be happy to fly in several times over the summer, and for all important times like intern presentation etc... Does this seem reasonable / do I have a chance of them agreeing?
Is this for GitHub?
I don’t think interning remotely is something you’d want to do. I can expand on why if you’d like. Have you been talking to companies close to where you will actually be?
Are companies willing to fly interns and pay for their hotels and expenses for meetings and presentations? Sounds like your options are either relocate for the the internship or find another internship.
daily reminder that hong kong is not china
China numba 69. This is a reminder China is totalitarianism.
I would say be there for at least 2 weeks and then propose this as an option, unless you have a strongly compelling reason (in which case, they may question why you didn't bring this up during your discussions from the first phone screen till your offer... )
Possibly talk to them. But remote internship would be first one
