Remote onboarding | Google

Hi Nooglers If you have recently joined Google from a different state through remote onboarding, how does the tax situation work? Do you have to pay state taxes in both states? The state you currently live in and your Google home office state? I am wondering if this is going to be a lot considering the sign on payout, etc., #relocate #google #remoteonboarding

This question has nothing to do with Google. But yes, you will pay taxes in both states. And if by any chance you are on a Visa, you need to file amendment saying you will work from a different state.

Thanks! 👍🏼 Tagged Google because I want to know the experience from recently joined Nooglers if Google is allowing them to postpone the signon payment.

This is misinformation. https://www.blog.rapidtax.com/work-remotely-pay-taxes/

My research indicates that you get taxed based on the state in which you work. Since you will be a remote employee, you’d be paying taxes on your current state. You would not get taxed twice, even though your home office is in CA. I'm in this situation. I was warned by internal systems that my address didn't match my location, so I updated my address to my permanent location, but I set my mailing address to an alternate where I'm staying. I would rather pay state taxes for alternate than NYC taxes, but not worth the hassle.

Are you a noogler who recently onboarded? Or an existing google who went to a different state to wfh?

@lizzyg So you are paying only the other state taxes now (not NYC)? Have you recently onboarded remotely due to Covid?
