Due to the timing of my job search I have put myself in a difficult position and would like some input from the Blind community. Last week I signed an offer letter to do contract work for a small Microsoft team. It seems like a good product they are working on and the technologies they use are right up my alley. The issues are that the pay is below average, it's a 6 month contract (maximum of 18mo), and they want me to relocate to Redmond WA post covid. There is no way I could afford to live in Redmond on the pay I am getting. I am waiting for my background check to clear. Because of the above, I decided to continue to persue a local full time role with a top 3 phone service provider. I have recieved an offer to work on technologies I am familiar with and I'm wondering what you guys would do in my position. YoE: 3.5 Microsoft offer: 50/hr = 103k 6mo contract with possibility of extension up to 18mo (it's likely that once the product is done I will be terminated) Top 3 Phone Service provider offer: 110k base 10% bonus 10% RSU Should I back out of my signed offer letter with Microsoft to take a full time role with better compensation? Do you think this will hurt my chances of working for Microsoft later on? #engineering #software #swe #microsoft #verizon #tmobile #att
FTE is almost always better than TV roles.
I vote for MSFT and try to convert to FTE there It’s doable
It's not impossible but the nature of the small project and team makes me think that conversion to FTE would be unlikely. If I was a contractor for say an Azure team I would be inclined to agree more.
Take the full time job. The only worry here is MSFT "blacklisting" you for reneging on the contract but not actually sure that's even a thing?
Naah . Blacklisting that too for contracting ? Nope.
Blacklisting, while paying you 50 dollars? Bro, contracting is at will from both sides.
