Renege Google????
Has anyone ever reneged on Google? Were there any serious repercussions? For context, Google downleveled to L3, but gave amazing comp offer (more than I’m making as L5 here). I accepted. Facebook came back a week later with E4, similar comp. Would you renege in my situation?
L3 means lesser expectation. This gives you an excellent opportunity to be promoted next year or so and get even more pay. Don't chase the designation. Doesn't matter at all. I would take Google.

I got a high E5 and then google offered me almost same comp but L4 (crazy I know) .. but I think it takes a long time to promote so I am going to choose FB
Wtf I was in team match for l4 when fb offered my high e5 offer. I thought there was no way Google could match it
It matched and gave more for bay as my fb offer is for Seattle.. making it exactly equal for ye1 and ye2 is 30k less .. my fb tc is 475 with sign on for context.. I am so conflicted what to take.. I change my mind 6 times every day but might go with FB in the end
If you got e4 at fb and l3 at google for same pay. You should go with Google since you will then be able to get promo quickly to l4 and get more refreshers
Pointless to pick FB over G when the compensation is similar. You can always jump to FB at a later time for a higher level with a better TC.
Level matters if you are looking for faster growth. Reneging is no big deal.
people telling you to pick google are idiotic. L4 promo will take 2 years. You've leaving refreshers and extra comp on the table. And that underlevel will eat at you during the time you're there. You could go to FB now and then go to G as an L4 after a year with a much higher offer. People lateral from G to FB all the time. Zero sense in taking a downlevel. Better yet, in that 2 year window you become a E5 and blow current comp out the window.

no, because you can say situation has changed and you need to be closer to family.
Go with Google for better brand and WLB. You can jump to fb or any other place after 1-2 years for higher package. Ensure your offer is front loaded.
Fb is just as good a brand for other tech firms. Maybe less so for your friends, family and general public, but who gives a fuck right?

No, I was offered under 300k, but close. All these stories you hear about 300k+ L5 amazon offers are from external hires with significant YOE, not internal promos.
