Got a new grad offer for Meta last year (180k TC) but with all the news going on i’m getting worried about what working there will be like along with fact that their may be layoffs / managers getting rid of under performers. My start date is early august. I have a new grad offer for SoFi that is roughly the same (185k) but with smaller signing bonus (50k meta vs 20k sofi). Keeping long term career growth in mind, should i take my chances and stick with meta or go to SoFI? #engineering #swe #meta #sofi #recession
So your base at SoFi is higher than Meta?
yea, 135k base
What’s your location? If you’re in Seattle or SF you should be able to negotiate that up to $145k especially with another offer in hand
*there not their Layoffs can happen at almost any company. There was a big layoff at SoFi just a few years back.
lol, in any worst case, meta is much better than SoFi. Meta will eventually be out of business but not in next 10 years.
You’re young. Just work fucking hard at meta for a couple of years and grow. You’ll learn a lot there and you (probably) don’t have other commitments in life yet. If you have to be at the office past 9pm a bunch so be it. You’ll still have relatively good WLB. Don’t get in your head.
i needed to hear this thanks
+1 stop being a p*ssy OP. You got this
SoFi stock has a better upside and you will be buying the dip, however meta has stronger more established eng culture and you will learn a better foundation for your career. SoFi is on its 4-5th head of engineering in 5 years.
Would you be willing to refer me to Sofi?
No comparison. Go to Meta to learn better engineering practices. SoFi is like several tiers below Meta. And SoFi products are nothing better than any competitors.
thank you, i appreciate your candour
You mind if I ask you for a referral Sofi?
Sofi is yet another fintech nothing great about it. Who knows how recession will impact sofi. Go to meta learn the engineering foundation
Would you be willing to refer me?
Go Meta
Would you be willing to refer me to Sofi?
Isn’t SoFi in like a 10x worse spot than meta?
I’ve heard good things about long term outlook stockwise, but unsure about their engineering culture
It is.
