I accepted an internship offer for a unicorn last week, and I just received an offer from FANG. The startup is fintech and I prefer the name recognition and problems over at FANG than fintech unicorn. I accepted the unicorn offer with 2 weeks left until the offer expires. If I didn't accept the unicorn offer, I would still have a week left to accept the offer. If I were to renege the unicorn offer, would it look REALLY bad on my part even though in theory I would still have time to reject the offer normally? I already have a fall internship lined up that I really like, so pushing it to fall is not an option. I messed up and now I'm full of anxiety :(
Renege. They'll gladly rescind on you if necessary
If you are ok with doing off cycle internship, maybe ask faang if you can move the internship to fall/winter.
Which company is it? Stripe/Robinhood?
A good recruiter/hiring manager will understand. Unless you change your mind again and try to get the offer back within a year with the same recruiter, they're going to forget.
Btw in the valley this fintech unicorn probably has a better name recognition than FAANG. More interesting work too. I don't think your uncle or hometown friends opinion should affect your career.
Btw why did you accept early if you were waiting for more offers?
Anxiety and the belief I didn't have what it takes
Gotcha. No worries. I think that Lyft/unicorn are more difficult to achieve than FAANG, so try not to overindex on the “difficulty”. Congrats though.

You do you. Reject them and move on. Do it sooner rather than later. Call the recruiter on Monday.
