Hello Blind community, I eventually reneged Meta offer which I already accepted in March last year. I was being hired for business role, not SWE. To give you some context they already filled applications for new employment permit as I required one to work in the country. I don’t have the right to work in the country I’m residing, so Meta applied for new Employment Permit. But, since November layoffs I was very anxious about it and asked to move the start date and they agreed to move it to March this year. So I could not extend further than March, and eventually declined my offer. Can I be hired in the future? Does anyone have similar experiences, please share. UPD: position is not based in USA
Just stay at TikTok if you still have the job there
I’m staying TikTok, didn’t resign from TikTok but worried that I will not be considered for future roles
From what I know and heard it’s kind of grey line. For future they will still consider you based on team and hiring manager. But they will grill you for not taking offer last time
tc?
So you reneged on Meta after pushing the start date due to layoff fear? As far as blacklisted, which it sounds like you’re asking about, it’ll prob depend on the recruiter - if it was cordial and an understandable renege, I don’t see why you’re blacklisted. But I don’t think you could get the offer back - no harm in trying though.
Yes, I reneged after accepting offer and making me for a year, and changing start date. So I don’t think I can ask the offer back at this point. But curious if I will be blacklisted
Near 100% you are denylisted from getting a job there OP. Nothing against you, it's just probably how their HR would view it. Had you informed them when they made the adjustments to timing/etc, then would see it the other way. Since you gave a reason that had nothing to do with the terms of your agreement and reneged on your word, they probably view it as denylist eligible. Think if you were in their shoes. If they reneged the offer (for whatever reason), you may not denylist them from your job search in future, or you could bc you don't trust them as a company.
Do you think Tiktok gonna do layoff one day?
They might, no one is safe. Despite the fact we are hiring crazy, I have the feeling that this place is bloated
Call me ignorant but I really fail to see why most of these apps need the numbers of devs they have. Front end work definitely should not take that many devs and backend value for tons of features is crazy questionable. But hey, I won’t argue with the companies that want to keep spending. Good for everyone on the employee side of the equation.
Lulz, this aint a topic about TC. Anonimity sure does not bring the best in people 😆
Well! The benefit needs to be mutual. It helps others while you are being helped!
Yes, I am a Recruiter and you declining offer will not have any effect on your future employment. Instead you will be on top of the radar for recruiters
@SG0203 I think the OP reneged an offer not decline it. Since already accepted the offer, is it the same when reneging ? Or you might be blacklisted if you renege ?
Also seems like they reneged after accommodations were already made. The recruiter may be salty depending on how much time and effort they already spent on OP.
R u in Sg think I know u...
Nope, not in Sg
Sg wouldn’t take so long, they have h1b1
why did you decline if I may ask. What was the reason you gave meta to move start date? Also TC and YOE ?
I was afraid to be laid off, if I go there. I’m on visa, so TikTok seemed like a safer bet. I said that the reason of me not going there is the potential layoffs . Tbh, I’m regretting declining the offer :(((
Makes sense. Blind tax please. TC at both companies. BTW. I have someone who is looking to push start date for family reasons. Any other ideas that can help to move start date. Just information for future reference
