Looking to spend about $2000 with roommates in an apartment complex with full amenities. Anyone in a similar boat? Spending about 30% of net income on rent. Do you end up swimming and actually using the amenities? Does having a nicer place make it better when finding a partner? What do you folks do for fun after work living in South Bay? How often do you head to the city for concerts and going out? TC:120K
Damn 2 grand for a roommate, I'd go for a studio with an additional 5 hundo
Full amenities don't mean much to me personally since I have a gym at work. Pool is nice. Just depends on what is important to you. For 2000 you can get a sweet studio in Sunnyvale or middle of the road 1 bedroom. Roommates do help with lower cost per space but I don't like talking to people after work. And I like not wearing pants and most roomies frown on that. My rent % of income is more like 20% but I have other expenses to take care of. A good partner doesn't care how nice your place is as long as it is clean, but having a nice place doesn't hurt. I go out in the city maybe twice a month and you have to be careful with Caltrain shutting down earlier than some shows end, requiring an Uber or DD to get home.
Live in Palo Alto close to dntwn or at the least Mtn View. You will be bored to shitz in Sunny-male

Make a list of what you think is important for you. For me, the list looks like: * in-unit washer/dryer * hardwood floor * sun facing windows * gas stove (not electric) * etc I don’t use the swimming pool. I go to gym at work hence I don’t care if the apartment building has a gym.
