Over a year ago I was placed under a 2-year retention bonus clawback at IBM. I'm leaving IBM later this month. Do any former IBMers have any experience with repaying, not repaying, or getting a prorated repayment upon exiting? Is my best option to ask my first line manager to prorate or waive it? Yoe 9 TC 150 #tech #ibm
Are you referring to the IBM Milestone Achievement Program?(this is what my retention offer is called). If so, you should read the document. You don't have to repay anything, you're free to leave whenever without issue
No. "Cash Rentention Bonus 24 month clawback"
Yeah sounds like your retention contract is different than my IBM one
I worked for a company and left after 11 months. I forgot that my bonus was conditional on being at the company for a full year. No where in my resignation documents, nor in my exit interview did they warn or even mention that I would have to pay it back. They were radio silent until I stepped out the door and then they sent me straight to fucking collections. Got a call from a 3rd party agency telling me I needed to pay it back in full, that week, or face litigation. I was so unbelievably livid. Be prepared to have every dollar counted and clawed back when you leave without satisfying the terms of your original job.
Most employers do not take this to court, so yeah - wait until it goes to court or collections then it’s how poor you are i need a 10 year repayment plan or whatever to get them to give up
Where are you heading to? What's the new TC and the cash retention given by IBM?
Google. 330k not including 40k sign on. 50k rentention clawback
Wow.. That's great, you have more than doubled your salary and a better company.. All the best..
I heard in general you might be able to settle. If they say no to a waiveoff, you could offer half back. I also have this retention thing, just signed it a few months ago so 🍿. Best of luck!!!
You got retention for 1 year or 2 year?
2 years for 35k
This happened to a friend of mine. They reduced the repayment amount by crediting her vacation days encashment but she owed the whole amount, which was not that much after the credit for vacation days.
@op.. Did you bring this up with your manager? Are they waiving off the retention bonus or you paying back?
Yes. They claimed it's through hr and there's nothing they can do. They're not involved with the process at all. Prepare to repay or allow it to go to collections.
Ok.. Thanks for the update..

What do you think is wrong with a kid who got rejected by 9 colleges?
Never bring it up but always prepared to pay it back if they ask for it.
