I was thinking about resigning Meta, but now with the new under performers witch-hunt not sure if I should wait to get fired, I've been underperforming in my team for a while. I've been here under a year so if I resign I need to give back the sign on bonus prorated, but if I get fired it might look bad on my resume if they ever ask why I left Meta.
If you resign you may have to return money. If they fire, they won’t ask plus may give you 2 months paycheck. Also, no one asks if you got fired or not in new job. You don’t have to share
Actually, for job applications and even manager/HR interviews they will ask “why you left.” They won’t ask if you got fired - you’re right. But if you do get let go, you should have an answer handy and prepare to deflect those questions (without talking around the subject)
^ heard about lies? There’s plenty on the menu.
“but if I get fired it might look bad on my resume if they ever ask why I left Meta.” Why would you ever tell them you got fired?
Please answer if you can. Help, don’t be smartass
he’s implying don’t resign. i think that answers the question well
i do bot believe they are "required". they might do it just to ensure no legal issues but they do t have to
Severance is paid for layoffs not under performance firing?
No brainer , get fired possibly they might give you some package but if you have another job who can’t wait it out makes sense to resign.
Start LCing and wait for the axe.
Start leetcoding, Only resign if you have >= offer lined up.
No one verifies why you left. Just never say you got fired.
Companies lie all the time; so can we 🤪
Do you think companies have a hotline that tells random people their employees' history and job performance? If so, where is this hotline? They have a system to verify employment, and that's it. They have no incentive to give out any more information as that could lead to privacy violations and/or liability issues
What is wrong with you.

There are so many workarounds to “why did your leave” when you got fired. In addition, if you wait for the slaughter, you will not get “slaughtered” immediately. The slaughter will take time, likely at least 2 months should you be on the list. That gives you 2+ months to search for a job WHILE EMPLOYED! So it’s a no-brainer to wait!
How do you know you have been underperforming? Did you get feedback that you are not performing? If thats the case then start looking outside LC and wait to be fired .
Yeah my manager has been constantly complaining about my diff count and other things in our 1:1s
Ok well then start looking, dont worry abt fired…no one verifies that..background check only captures your start date, end date and position…mind sharing your level?
