Please review my resume. I have been using a similar resume to apply for Senior Software Engineer role and I haven't been getting any call back at all. Also appreciate any referral. #jobs #resume #resumereview
1. What is this font? Use a normal one 2. Get rid of summary 3. Move Skills below Experience 4. Your AWS experience is very light. What did you do for 2 years as a L6 with 8-10 YoE? Rewrote a canary? Did normal on-call stuff? Wtf. Show more impact, that’s probably why you’re not getting any callbacks 5. Don’t underline things. That makes it seem like other things aren’t as important
spot on

I’ll be straightforward here. Your experience as SDE3 is equivalent to mine as L4 SDE. But it was when Amazon had work. 9 years back. At that time after panel review you might make it to L5

For the most part it looks good. You are not getting calls not because of the resume. Unfortunately because of the market, It's kinda shitty right now. Having said that, I agree with getting rid of the summary. Keep skills where they are but try to compress them in one line. Don't underline things as Remitly said. Mention the team size that you led in AWS, and some meatier projects if you have any
@livelovehi, thanks much for providing your feedback. I have moved the skill below experience. Also included the team size. Unfortunately, I don't have a meatier project during my employment with AWS.
Instead of 5-men make it gender neutral. Because all the companies have DEI thing it just better to follow it. I don’t have any opinion on any of these DEI stuff so blind folks please don’t blast me for mentioning it.
If you don't see results after making the recommended changes here, then feel free to DM. With 7 yoe you should be getting about 10% callback rate from recruiters. I've conducted 2 years of AB resume experiments & helped 50+ people land jobs in the last 18 months. I offer a resume workshop as a paid service. Can send my profile with recommendations.
Show this resume to your friends and ask them - do you know what I do? I guarantee most of them will say they're not sure.
I might not comprehend your feedback. If I pass this to my peer who is in the technological field, they should be able to understand most of the resume. Do you suggest that I should make the resume more jargon-friendly, substituting words such as multi-availability zone, cache, monitoring platform, and data plane request?
You’re a senior sde at aws. You shouldn’t be going through application upload pipeline You should be going through recruiter contacted you pipeline Fix up your LinkedIn. If done right you’ll have recruiters messaging you left and right
Unfortunately this isn't the case now. The time when I receive recruiter contact me weekly is over. 😟
Leave the summary Move the skills part after the Education section
Any reason why the skills part should be the last section of the resume? AFAIK, the resume should list the information by its relevancy in descending order. After multiple years of working, education isn't critical information, except to display that I had formal education to understand the basic system concept presented.
I agree with some others here. As a former HM who reviewed hundreds of resumes the first thing I feel is a disconnect between the title at Amazon and the work done. Again, it happens and not only at Amazon, but everywhere as people don't get enough scope. My suggestion is to increase your scope in the next 6-12 months and try again or make up convincing stories. At L6 there should be a coherent story of leadership, driving new initiatives, addressing systemic issues.
I agreed. Interestingly though, my SDM assured me that my work is at L6 level, as compared to be L5 by definition of scope, because of the independence to handle the tasks alone, from problem definition to delivery.
Yes that is probably so, it's just not visible in your resume. I'd say claim more technical leadership: connect what you did to business problems. It should go kind of like this: I saw a systemic problem/gap/opportunity, I proposed the solution, got buy in, delivered design and got a few L5/L4 s to implement the details. (I wrote major prices of code - optional)
