A friend of mine was attending grad school with me. But she didn't start her career right away as she wanted to focus on new born baby. Now, she is entering job market with 3-year gap on resume. While she was stay at home mom, she took some online courses to keep her skill active. But, her first two call didn't go well in which one recruiter clearly said they want fresher w/o gap and another one seemed to be understanding but didn't carry fwd to next step. My advice as a woman to her is industry will ignore this gap and she will find something. But looking at the tough times, I feel should she just remove years from resume? I mean some ppl don't show GPA on resume 😂, similarly can years data be hidden on resume? Other options is to specifically show online courses during these 3 years. #womenintech #resume #career
Has she had work experience at all ?
Yes, that is before grad school. After graduation there is a gap.
I think Facebook has specific positions for people with such a gap in their resume! Your friend should check it out.
She is in computational biology, so FB is not applicable.
Look for “return to work”/“re-entry” programs that are explicitly targeted towards this (e.g. Facebook has one).
Thanks, but She is in computational biology, so FB is not applicable.
