I have about 4.5yrs of project management experience managing energy projects in the Oil and Gas industry and now in Solar. I’m currently on an H1B visa finding it tough to get even a call from the FAANGS companies. I’ve hired career coaches who tell me nothing new on how to write a resume or create a linkedin profile. And I come with great references. What am I doing wrong?
Do you have any tech background?
No I don’t. I have a mechanical engineering background. Coding would be like reinventing myself
Project manager industry is saturated. Also, project manager jobs are evolving. Some data analysis skills, some technical background and understanding of CS would help you. Take some Lynda.com LinkedIn courses on Data Analysis, Python. and Javascript fundamentals. Rhis way you get certified badges and your profile gets attractive.
PM market is over saturated.
Not for good, experienced PMs
Yes it is
Your combined experience and education is not a good fit for most positions in FANG. You either go get a CS degree or get some software industry experience. Otherwise you won’t be competitive.
Maybe I’m just targeting the wrong companies
Probably shouldn't target the tech industry
Better if you have coding exp and want to transition into PM
