Hello guys and girls, im based in Germany. I would like to become a AS/RS, because i really enjoy playing around with data, i enjoy statistics and learning about ml/ai. Im relatively decent at maths. SWE seems okay too, especially because there are more opportunities, but Im worried about getting bored out. My plan is to finish my undergrad, to do my masters in cs at either (Top 100)TU Munich/GTech or (Top 10) ETH Zurich, depending on which one will accept me. While in my undergrad Ill be looking for a ds internship (possibly being an analytics position with sql and tableau, from what ive seen), just to get something on my resume. Edit: Since its still so far away, this is the least important part of the plan. (Finally my dream is to live somewhere in Oceania, NZ or Australia. I hope with enough skills Ill be able to find a job there, that pays enough to take care of my family.) This is my rough plan, I would love what you guys think. Im open to any criticism, better to know it now rather than later. Thanks all, copybara
I have my masters from the U of Munich and live in Australia. There are no research jobs here. The tech scene is so tiny that finding a decent SWE job is hard.
Youre living my dream life, hehe. Im glad for you. How have you made the jump to down under?
Took another degree.
Hi, did you enroll at ETH?
If you're certain on moving to NZ or Australia eventually, it might be better to do your masters there and try working towards a citizenship while operating on a worker's visa.
Thanks for your input, I have actually considered that already. Since I dont have to pay tuiton fees here and I will get around 1k a month through government aids, Id prefer doing my masters here first. I will apply to the joint degree program between TU Munich and Uni of Queensland i believe, I hope its going to be available by the time I start studying. And if that doesnt work out, then my wife can apply as a Masters student and I can join her on spouse visa.
