I’m currently working as a full stack dev, been at my current company about 7 months, but I was curious if anyone has gotten into any of these types of firms from a non FAANG. Went to a non Ivy (good state school), haven’t worked for a FAANG, my work history consists of 1-1.5 years per company, not sure what I can optimally do to make myself more appealing for these companies. I’m studying Python and doing leetcode with it on the side, but does anyone have any advice on how to land an interview? Should I do a masters at an Ivy, work at a FAANG first, try to get a job at Bloomberg in a year, reach out to someone directly on LinkedIn? It sounds like if I want to work at these kinds of companies it’ll be harder to switch once I’m more senior. Just want to get exposed to the software side of finance, but not enterprise or banking like at Goldman or JPMorgan. I’ve noticed that people working at Bloomberg tend to get reached out to by these firms so just curious about it. TC: 250 YOE: 3.5 #engineering #swe #pdt #hft #bloomberg #faang #hedgefund
I don’t know why you would wanna get into PDT or hedge funds as a full stack dev. You’re not a first class citizen there. You’re not a leading researcher nor are you a star quant / trader. The tech stack in the industry is meh and you’re gonna be on an understaffed team…
PDT still a top shop no?
Yeah they’re all top shops. The brand wears off in the first month you join and you’re left with a job.
