I'm trying to hire several Software Engineer L5s and L6s within AWS EC2. For L5, please have a minimum of 2 YoE and think LC easy/mediums are a breeze. For L6, minimum of 5 YoE and likewise can crush leetcode and system design at scale. I don't think L6 needs to worry about LC hard questions. Please also be well versed on Amazon's leadership principles and have rehearsed answers -- behavioral at Amazon matters just as much if not more than technical. Ping me and send me a publicly accessible link your resume on Google Drive or Dropbox and I can refer you directly to my teams. To know what my teams are like, keep reading: Horror stories or WLB at Amazon are not true on my team. I average 30-45 hours a week (in the past 8 weeks I haven't worked more than 40), I primarily WFH, and log on when I please. We are requiring in office now 2x a week if you end up being based out of VA, but we are hiring out of NYC/NJ, Austin, Nashville, Sunnyvale, and Seattle too -- all of which would effectively be full remote. On call is a week once every 3 months, so operational load is not high. YBYO (You Build it You Own It) model of work, which is refreshing. L5 TC is ~275K. Varies +/- 50K probably based on experience. Could vary an additional +50K in high CoL areas (Seattle, SF or NYC). That means an offer for 350K in Seattle isn't out of the question at L5. I'm based out of Virginia. 1 PIP within my org within the last 2 years, and it was because an L4 was coasting for 3+ years. Yes, there are PIP quotas, but it's 5% across an org per level, which means if you're literally not the worst person, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. These roles are NOT to target a backfill - my immediate team has split recently and doubled in size. Tech stack is (obviously) AWS services and Java. Internal tools are in Ruby, Python, and Go. Extremely interesting problems to solve and the scale/impact within EC2 is unimaginable unless you've worked here. L6 TC I've seen anywhere from 300K to 600K depending on how good you are at anchoring and negotiating, performance in the interview, and YoE. #hiring #jobopening #recruiting
This is how mermaids lure you in
This is brave. If you had paid your L5 and L6 fairly, you didnāt have to beg here
300k to 600k for SDE3? I'm hearing reports of SDE2 making 500k so you gonna have to do better than that buddy. i made 285 last year on my w2 as an SDE3 at amazon right now, 300k isn't going to entice anyone. but i'm leaving so maybe i'll boomerang back and join? HAH YEAH RIGHT AWS IS AWFUL AND EVERYONE I KNOW THERE GETS WORKED LIKE A DOG. hard pass
OP, how is the wlb in your team? in avg. how many hours per week your team work?
35-40
que-2: OP, how do you promote an individual for next level? do you give them clear goals & promote them if they finish the work before deadline?
It's not "Do this and get promoted." It's about performance above the bar on all of your assignments relative to the L5s or L6s in your org.
You donāt do reinvent projects? If you do I call BS on WLB.
No, but we onboard Re:Invent teams on occasion.
What is your role currently? Currently talking to recruiter about an AWS L7 position and curious from an existing SDM or Sr SDM's take.
Good sales pitch but not in the right platform. This is blind š¤£, people hate Amazon here. Hope you get good candidates for your team though š
Well said lol š
